
GERALD WILSON, C.B. (CHAIRMAN)
Gerry is a former Secretary of the Scottish Office Education and Industry Department. He is vice convener of the Court of Strathclyde University and the Chairman of Fairbridge in Scotland. He spent 5 years as a counsellor in the Office of the UK Permanent Representative to the European Communities in Brussels
JAMES IVORY C.A. (TREASURER)
James was an investment manager for Ivory and Sime from 1968-1981, when he co-founded Ivory and Co (which became Stewart Ivory & Co). He retired in 2001 and now runs the family farm, concentrating on woodlands. He has and interest both in education and in Europe, and has been the Treasurer of the Trust since 1993.
BARBARA MACLEOD (NATIONAL ORGANISER)
Barbara trained as a TEFL teacher and worked in the UK, Japan and Algeria before returning to Edinburgh. She has been National Organiser of the Trust since 1993.
PROFESSOR RAE CONDIE
Rae Condie is a Professor of Education and a former Deputy Principal at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. As Deputy Principal, she was responsible for student exchanges across Europe and was involved in the postgraduate strand of the activities of the European Consortium of Innovative Universities, of which Strathclyde is a founding member.
DUGALD CRAIG
Dugald is International Development Manager with the West of Scotland Colleges’ Partnership. He has almost 30 years’ experience of creating , managing and monitoring European and transnational educational programmes in many countries, including some 4 years, in Brussels, managing the professional, technical and administrative support to the SOCRATES Programme.
ALISON EDWARDS
Alison was until recently a teacher of Modern Languages with experience as Principal Teacher of German at Liberton High School and latterly as teacher of French and German at St. George’s School for Girls, Edinburgh, with particular interest in organising educational exchange visits in Europe, work experience abroad, and the European Youth Parliament.
DR. CHRISTINE FITTON
Before joining Lifelong Learning UK in 2005, Christine managed Edinburgh’s Lifelong Learning Partnership, a charitable company promoting joint working by the lifelong learning sector to push forward the learning and social inclusion agendas.
A qualified teacher, she worked in Scotland’s colleges for 17 years before moving to local government where she ran the education department International Unit. In this role she promoted international education in schools and community learning and development. The Euroquiz was one of the successful joint ventures which she began.
MOIRA FRIZZELL
Moira recently retired as an Associate Principal from Stevenson College where she had responsibility for Early Education, Health and Social Care Training. She is committed to raising awareness, interest and understanding of European issues with both primary and secondary school pupils and the opportunity for pupils to have student exchange.
JOHN MULGREW OBE
John has been Chair of the Board of Learning and Teaching Scotland since April 2006. He also Chairs the Remuneration Committee and attends the LTS Advisory Council Meetings. John has been a secondary Head Teacher, was President of the Association of Directors of Education in Scotland (ADES) in 2000; chaired the national review of foreign languages in Scottish schools; was a member of the Determined to Succeed group; member of the Smith Group and participated in a review of initial teacher education.
BOB PAYNE
Bob is a youth worker by training and was working at national level in Scotland as the Scottish Community Education Council's Director of international services before being invited to Brussels by the European Commission to set up the Eurodesk European Office and establish the European Network of Eurodesks. Bob worked full time in Brussels for 10 years as the Director of the Eurodesk Network and has been responsible for establishing Eurodesk in 30 countries. Bob has recently left his Eurodesk post to allow more time to concentrate on activities in Scotland.
STUART RYCROFT
A former secondary school Depute Head, Stuart is currently working as Clackmannanshire Co-ordinator for the More Choices, More Chances agenda - a strategy aimed at reducing the number of young people between 16 and 19 years of age not in employment, education or training.
RODERICK SKINNER
Roderick spent most of his career as an EU official in Luxembourg, Brussels and at the EU’s Delegation to Australia and New Zealand in Canberra. Since retiring back to Scotland, he has continued his strong interest in European matters with his active membership of the European Movement in Scotland which he chaired from 2007 to 2009. He has also very happily taken part as a volunteer in various SEET competitions.
